The right way to look at decision making is to analyze the positives and negatives.
This week’s example is the raising of minimum wage in California for fast food employees.
What area the pros and who might win by this new law?
- There are only two winners. First the employees of fast-food services will get a $4.00 an hour increase in their starting wage.
- The state government will get more in income taxes due to increased wages.
Parents, I suggest you teach your children to look deeper into the results. In this case the employees will only be excited about their new income temporarily.
Why because as the local paint store owners now pays $25 for his or her Hamberg, they will raise the cost of paint just to stay even. Those employees getting the raise will eat up more in higher prices on the items they buy.
This feeds inflation that will geometrically expand.
Have the workers really gained income if their living expense goes up?
The cons or ramifications of this legislation are the following.
- The business may lose enough customers to go out of business and get rid of all employees.
- The employees may be laid off or have their hours cut.
- The customers may lose a local convenient place they like to eat.
- All vendors to that business will lose business.
- Raising prices on a staple as food, will increase prices in many businesses.
- Local youth will find less jobs to work.
- The fast-food business owners will make less profit.
- This is a one industry interruption. Not what the majority of people want.
- The loss of democracy and freedom. When our Government harms capitalism.
10. Decisions against the people’s will causes polarization not unity.
- With closing and weak businesses, the commercial property tax
income will be lowered, and services will be underfunded. - The people who live in poor areas vote against their school
funding and programs. - Businesses will use robots instead of employees.
- Boarded up business locations will be vandalized and promote
crime and people will not feel safe in this area. - Inflation causes higher interests and lowers capability of getting
loans at a rate citizens can afford a home mortgage or car payment.
The only logical reason for this increase for the politicians is to get votes. It shows how politicians don’t understand business. That they use only emotions to make decisions.
They don’t understand decision making or the don’t care as they may feel they use power.
That feeling of power through oligarchs represent our nations under attack from politicians that don’t want democracy.
This is another suggestion for parents as you teach your children to make good decisions and the difference between democracy and oligarchy.
